Hydrogen is seen as the energy carrier of the future and as such will also be an important element when it comes to expand renewable forms of energy in Germany. Already today, hydrogen occurs in large quantities as a by-product in the chemical industry (HyCologne), but the most promising potential lies in the production of green power from renewable resources such as wind power. Wind-powered electrolysis, power-to-gas plants, fuel cell-driven vehicles and combined heat & power systems are the smart technologies we will have to deal with in the next years. Today, the first power-to-gas and combined heat & power plants are already in operation and you can see fuel cell-driven hybrid busses and cars on our streets.
